RSSYesterday we submitted Readmine to a bunch of software directories.
For the last couple of months we took a break form the project. After working so intensley for so long it is hard to see the forest from the trees. It's been good taking a break, a lot of things are so much clearer. Our focus from here is to keep squashing bugs so if you find any problems send them in and we'll squash them
We've been knocking off bugs and cleaning up but more so we're putting some finishing touches on the UI so users can train Readmine - we figured having it automatically do it's magic was not that cool.. people like to see how things happen and how Readmine works it out. So we've built that in and will release a version soon
We're working on the Readmine code everyday. Currently we're pulling together a version that you'll be able to run from a USB Key so you take Readmine with you and run it on any Windows PC.
We're also finishing off some bugs people have experienced when running Readmine for the first time - an issue we detected when people try to do things in the Readmine app whilst the Wizard is still running. A new version will be out tomorrow. If you have experienced this problem. Simply restart Readmine and let the Wizard complete before doing anything in the Readmine app.
Then after that we have some tweaks we'll do to the Analysing engine. We're getting excellent results now but after a few months use we've worked out how to tweak the math and get even better results. We'll have a version available with these tweaks later this week.
If you already have Readmine installed - you can go to the Start Menu and select Program Files - Readmine - Check for Updates. This will chec if there is an update available and then download and install it for you.
We certainly do eat our own dog food and it tastes great. We use Readmine reguarly throughout the day. Actually without Readmine I would be lost - each time I load it up and click the next unread button (at the top right of the small toolbar) I'm straight into the news that is interesting to me. And that is with 1900 items on the list. I'm clicking through items that are really interesting - stuff I need to know about and I'm not having to trawl through endless meanlingess items that I dont care about. The Readmine install I am using - i never put in any important words - I simply did a quick install let it read my browser cache and then just started reading with it.
I've also been finding stuff that i had been discussing with friends - within minutes - and I am able to instantly drag and drop relevant stuff to my friends and voila!

Is this the right way to say it.. The Public can now Blog the chief economist? Would'nt it be the Public can now comment on the Cheif Economists blog. I don't think some in the media understand blogs yet.

WASHINGTON - The public can now "blog" the chief economist of the International Monetary Fund on such matters as global growth or turmoil in financial markets.
As we start rolling out the closed beta to a small group we're working on documentation and an FAQ for Readmine. If you have specific requests please post a comment or email michaelg@readmine.com and we'll give priority to what we work on based on the requests we recieve.
We're a small team of 3 people - Michael Nordling, Rohan Reyhdners (last year and a bit) and myself (Michael Guilfoyle) from Canberra Australia who have spent the last few years developing Readmine whilst doing many other things. We took on a pretty big task with our spec for Readmine but we were motivated to it becuase we were frustrated, very frustrated. The shear volume of information we have to deal with each day is overwhelming and once through that, it left no room for us to create and express even the most humble identity on the net and be part of some sort of group. We didnt just want a pic and a static bio - we wanted to be able to continually roll out some sort of reflection of who we are and want we're interested in. Blogs will do that but you have to take the time to write about stuff and you especially have to take the time to find something interesting to comment on. So we needed to build some tools to make all this happen and happen within 15-20 mins a day. The result (and still evolving) is Readmine.
On the 1st of October we officially released Redmine to closed beta and only gave it out to two people outside our small team.Then we spent the next two weeks going over every bit of the application to get out all bugs and issues that could cause a problem and would make the general use of Readmine frustrating.
We re happy to say as we start releasing to a wider closed beta group; Readmine will install and give you good results and a feeling of getting some value out of your time within around 20 mins.
Our goal all along was to make a piece of software that would take away the pain of dealing with the hundreds of news and blog post updates each day from a handful or hundreds of RSS news and blog feeds. We also wanted to provide something at the end of your reading time that would be useful (the Readlog).
My biggest wish is that those who start using get value from Readmine and I hope it makes a difference to their online life and inspires people to be more actively apart of the internet, rather than just a consumer of content.
It s been a heck of a journey for our small team over the last few years pulling Readmine together and I can t tell you just how good it feels after so much time and work to be able to put it out and get some feedback.
Compared to the speed of which many internet sites and products are developed today, many have commented on how long we took to create Readmine. We were incredibly ambitious with our spec for Readmine and we took on a monumental undertaking for our small team of 3 people .
We wanted to release a product that would give people some serious benefits and value for their time using Readmine. We re trying to tackle some pretty big objectives with empowering and inspiring people to be more actively apart of the internet with their thoughts, opinions, comments, expressions or just simply leaving a record of what was of interest to them and then some.
OK enough rambling. I just needed to get a few things off my chest. I also just wanted to show that we re a small team of open minded genuine people eager to ensure Readmine is a valuable and highly useful tool for you. I hope you sign up for our closed beta and send in bug reports and feedback and we ll be working hard and fast to get them all sorted out.
Over the coming weeks we re working on a Readmine.com website for the public beta release. We ll pull together some better Video Overviews (yeah the current one is incredibly rushed and saying it is bad would be, well, being very polite - just wanted to get something up to give you a rundown). A lot of the work we ll do from here on will be based on feedback from people like you.
